What will it look like?
Have you ever seen a potter at work? I have stood utterly amazed at the beautiful creations they form with their hands. I have watched as the potter pushes and pulls and forms, what in my mind, is a beautiful object with what was at one point a big ball of mud. I have watched them, about the time I thought they were finished, notice some small imperfection, and mash it all down and start over. I have seen them create a beautiful object and about the time I thought they were done take a small piece of string and slice it right down the center to create something completely different than what I thought he was making.
So many times I have felt like that in God’s hand. About the time I was getting comfortable with who God was making me to be, he saw an imperfection, and SWISH! There I was, a big ball of clay. Or better yet, after I have surrendered to my imperfection and allowed God to reshape me, when He again begins to mold me and I begin to see what I think He is trying to create me to be – out comes the string!
The truth is none of us know what we will look like when our vessel has been molded. We can, however, gain some insight from that big ball of clay on the potter’s wheel. We can either submit to the potter’s hand and be molded into the vessel He intends us to be or we can become a hardened block of clay that is easily broken and damaged.
The desire of my heart is when all is said and done, when my vessel has been completed, I want to be who He created me to be. MOLDED in his image.
